The Miraculous
Power of the Breath
by Debi Miller |
Have you ever
watched a dolphin swim? Close your eyes for a moment
and picture or remember: that sense of freedom,
energized, free from thought or worry, flowing in the
moment, clarity, playfulness, connectedness with
everything around, total peace, breathing fully and
freely. Ahh..the breath…I believe we have something to
learn from these beautiful angels of the sea.
Prana:
Breath, the vital life force of body, mind, spirit and
the universe.
The breath is
our vital life force that operates the sensory, motor
and physiological mechanisms of the body. It sustains
life, bodily function and physical action. It is the
vital energy which activates the body, mind and spirit.
Medical
research shows that over 90 percent of the body’s energy
is produced by oxygen and that the more oxygen we have
in our system, the more energy we produce. Our ability
to think clearly, feel and act comes from the energy
created by oxygen.
There are
scores of medical practitioners who recognize the value
of deep breathing and the list is growing.
World-renowned cardiologist Dr. Dean Ornish says in his
book Dr. Dean Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart
Disease that deep breathing is the best stress
reducer known to man. It has been medically proven that
stress has a direct impact on the immune system. When
your stress level is up, your immune system is down:
when your stress level is down, your immune system is
up. We can reduce our stress through deep breathing,
which then boosts the immune system. The immune system
is our number-one line of defense against the viruses,
bacteria and other invaders that make us ill, causing
everything from minor colds and flu to major illnesses.
Deep breathing increases the oxygen levels in the blood,
which strengthens our immune systems.
Dr. Alec
Borsenko states, “Oxygen gets rid of toxicity.
Bacteria, viruses and parasites are destroyed in the
presence of oxygen.” Breathing controls the flow of the
lymphatic system. We have four times more lymphatic
fluid then blood. Lymphatic cells release toxins from
the body.
More than
anything else, good health and well-being is dependent
on the maximum production, maintenance and flow of
energy, which is produced by oxygen. Oxygen
contributes to proper metabolic function, better
circulation, assimilation, digestion and elimination.
It helps purify the blood, keeping it free from cellular
build-up. Sufficient oxygen gives the body a chance to
rebuild itself and strengthen its immune system. It is
our natural defense against disease.
Research
shows that most people breathe shallowly, barely using
one-fifth of the lungs’ capacity to increase oxygen flow
to their bodies. Shallow breathing starves the body of
vital oxygen and also causes premature aging. And the
good news is…this can be changed!!
I believe
that yesterdays metaphysics is today’s science. Quantum
physics now proves that everything is fluid and
everything is vibrating, including our physical bodies,
our minds, our thoughts, our cells and our spirit. So
how does one raise their vibration? Oxygenation through
breathing.
Twenty-two
years ago, I had the opportunity of experiencing a
Breathwork/Rebirthing session for the first time. I
will never forget that day because it was a pivotal
moment for me. After a consultation with my Breathwork
Coach, I laid down on mat in her office and began
breathing in a circular manner as she had instructed
me. My mind was active to say the least, probably
better described as racing most of the time and I was
highly skeptical. I found it hard to believe that a
simple breathing technique could actually help me feel
better, but I was willing to give it a try. To my
surprise, by the end of the session I felt completely
different. During the session I had some emotional
releases, and by the end my mind was completely quiet,
my body was tingling and vibrating with energy and best
of all I felt a sense of peace and connectedness beyond
anything I had ever experienced before. I knew then that
I was on to something and that my life would never be
the same. And from that moment on things did began to
change.
By learning
Breathwork and practicing different breathing
techniques, you can literally change your life! Feeling
more energized, relaxed and alive is the natural result
of applying the knowledge and practice of Breathwork. I
have been practicing and teaching Breathwork and
Rebirthing for 20 years now, and I am still amazed at
the beauty, the simplicity, and the power of conscious
breathing. My energy levels have increased immensely, my
health has improved, and my thought processes,
communications and relationships are healthy and clear.
But best of all I am at peace in my spirit.
One of the
greatest benefits and gifts of Breathwork and Rebirthing
is heightened spiritual awareness. The breath is a
bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind.
Through the conscious connected breathing, one is able
to gently release old stored emotions and limiting
thoughts. Once these obstacles are removed the results
are feelings of calmness, connectedness and bliss, which
I believe to be our natural state of being. By turning
to the breath, you turn toward your spiritual self, that
non-physical yet essential aspect of your being.
Whether it is
spiritual connection, better health, clarity of thought
or release of everyday stresses that you may be seeking,
this miraculous modality covers it all. It is simple,
profound and life altering!!!
