Numerology and Inner Peace
"Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions,
slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures." -- John F.
Kennedy
This month we will discuss the role of Numerology in maintaining inner
peace. Utilizing your Essence
Numbers can help you to cultivate inner
peace by measuring time both forward and back. You can also explore life's
"turning points." Think of turning points as life events
when significant change or opportunity for growth occurs. Events like
marriage, divorce, births, and new employment can be represented.
Understanding the potential within events, with help from your
Essence numbers, brings self compassion and opportunity for inner
peace.
Seeking inner peace necessitates finding a way to make peace with
your life and experiences. The Essence Numbers can offer guidance through a “Table
of Events" (click for reading) for viewing a range of years. This will allow
you to see turning points of your past, present and future. Imagine a
turning point as similar to when an event in a movie alters circumstances,
possibly forcing a character to blindly react. A good illustration is seen
in the original Star Wars when Luke tells Obi Wan that he has
to go home. Unfortunately, Luke arrives there to find his home
destroyed. He can’t go back to his old life. It took him time to develop
self-control, and not be controlled by his turning points. Not allowing a
situation to
fully control your actions is part of having inner peace. When you’re
cognizant of your life you may be better able to live peacefully, without
being sidetracked by inner anxieties.
Craving inner peace won’t be enough. You must take the steps to get
peace. Keep in mind that peace will be good for your quality of life. In
fact, Jonathan
Steinberg, chief of cardiology at New York's St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital and lead author of a recent heart study, says: "It's
clear that any stressful time can create an environment that facilitates
the occurrence of heart problems in susceptible patients." His study
shows heart patients in New York City suffered an increase of threatening
heart arrhythmias right after 9/11/2001. Creating inner peace may then be
critical for you. With the proper
skills you’ll be able to handle challenging situations, and you’ll be more
aware of valuable turning points.
Developing inner peace empowers you to adapt to changes.
Your Essence numbers can help you to do this by helping you to
recognize obstacles as possible turning points. Hopefully, this
recognition can then allow you to see how you might benefit from your
experiences. Indeed Essence Numbers can illustrate how you may
perceive obstacles, and they can offer navigational guidance
for these challenges. However, maintaining inner peace means that you have
found ways to accept
your situation. Most importantly, events do not dictate how you
perceive yourself, yet you’re willing to utilize opportunities created by
them. For instance, during a #1 Essence, you’ll have found ways to
step up, perhaps becoming more assertive and creative. During a #2
Essence, you will have learned to be patient and had ample occasions
to improve diplomacy.
Actively pursuing inner peace means that you’re willing to be
persistent, honest, and self-aware. You’re willing to utilize your
experiences from everyday life for growth and may even learn from
inspirational books, movies, myths or poems. For me a key point in
the Beowulf poem reads: “So fame comes to men who mean to win it”
and further down: “Once Beowulf was back on his feet and fighting.
Then he saw, hanging on a wall, a heavy Sword hammered by giants,
strong and blessed with their magic, the best of all weapons…” This means that victory belongs to
people who are persistent, committed
and don’t quit. Of course there are times when we all want to throw in
the towel. The Essences of #8, #11, and #22 can represent such
times and are ones in which your strength and commitment may be
tested.
Achieving inner peace may first involve calming your inner voices.
Tools like professional Voice Dialogue, Journaling,
and Naikan can
help. With Voice Dialogue, you can listen and work with those voices
that are resistant to moving on, which can help with a #1 Essence
(beginnings) or #9 Essence (endings). Naikan is the art of looking
inward and appreciating others. You can use it to create detailed lists
that examine relationships, or events of a day, week, past year, or
perhaps the past 9 years. You then reflect on these lists, to gain a
more objective world view. During #7 and #9 Essence you may find
this reflection allows you to uncover greater personal truths.
Having inner peace does not mean that you are separate from the
world. During stressful times you may want to cut back on
your attention to television and the media, although some insight may come
from brief periodic viewing. However, be aware that you may want to
avoid the isolating effects of the media during more introspective
Essences, such as #7 and #9.
Keeping and nurturing inner peace means that you are indeed part of
the world. It means that you embrace who and where you are! How
many of us do this? How many of us let events dictate how we
perceive ourselves? How often do we let fear, or stress, stop us from
experiencing the moment? Consider Dana Quigley, Senior PGA tour
player who enjoys what he does and says: “My next round of golf is
the most important… I just can’t wait to get up in the morning and see
which way it’s going to go.”
Settling into inner peace will require that you are comfortable with
yourself and that you have the desire to learn, and grow, from your
experiences. While not every event is a major turning point, your
Essence Numbers can be a part of this process. Remember that there
are no bad numbers or experiences. Stress comes from not being at
peace with yourself and the world around you. Utilizing the insight of
your Essences for building a better understanding of your life will help
you to sow the seeds of peace in your inner world.
Good luck on your journey into Soulful Living and Numerology.
